Engineering Explained

WHAT DO ENGINEERS DO?

Engineers do research, design, manufacture, and manage.

They apply fundamental principles of math, science, and physics to develop new theories and technologies. These new theories and technologies are then applied to the design of products with uses that range from protecting the earths environment to flying in space. Computers, cell phones, airplanes, automobiles, food processing equipment, just about everything we now depend on in our daily lives, have been designed from basic engineering research.

Once a product has been designed, engineers develop manufacturing facilities to produce the products at an affordable price, in the quality and quantity dictated by the marketplace. These manufacturing facilities must protect the environment and the safety of our workers.

Because of their technical training and problem solving skills, many engineers elect to go into management and are running some of the largest companies in the world.
WHY ENGINEERING?

Want a career where you can make a difference in the world? Become an engineer. Without engineers there would be no roads or bridges. Of course, that would not matter because there would be no automobiles, airplanes, or other forms of modern transportation. Imagine a world without radios, televisions, telephones, and computers. Imagine a world without modern medicine and all of the tools doctor now have available to diagnose and treat patients. Engineers have designed and manufactured the innovations upon which our modern society now depends. What will engineers develop in the future that will change the world? Become an engineer and help design the future of the world.
